Village hall receives Lottery funding

Here’s the news we've all been waiting for…

Rearsby Village Hall has received an award of £150,000 for its re-development. The Rearsby Village Hall Redevelopment project aims to demolish the current outdated village hall and build a new structure on the existing site. The new building will make much better use of internal space and provide modern and efficient heating and lighting systems. Full plans of how it will look are displayed in the village hall.

Brian Frodsham, Project Co-ordinator for Rearsby Village Hall, said: “The news of hearing that we have been successful in our bid for a grant from the BIG Lottery Fund in just fantastic. Over the past two years we have seen the closure of the village filling station, shop and post office. A new village hall will re-vitalise the area as a community centre not only for our village but also for the surrounding areas. The existing hall was built in 1928 and has had its day. Very many thanks for making it happen for so many people. We look forward to the 21st century as a period of regeneration of vital villages.”

The project will benefit over 1,000 people through a variety of services spanning all residents, including youth clubs, adult education, and physical activities. Clubs for the elderly, an Internet point and a base for services such as a visiting doctor and parish clerk information point will also be created. A sign for Rearsby

Some six months after its arrival in the village, the Rearsby sign has finally been put up, in pride of place, on the Village Green.

The sign, which is hand carved, is a true work of art and unlike any other in the area. Made of solid oak and mounted on a granite plinth, it owes its design to a drawing by Rearsby School pupil Matthew O'Brien, winner of the 'Design a Sign for Rearsby' competition organised by the Parish Council.

What do you think of the sign?
